Boldenone Undecylenate (Equipoise): The Long Ester, Examined

Boldenone is the anabolic that never left the barn: approved for horses, long absent from human pharmacies, and now mostly visible in detection and residue science.

The molecule

Boldenone is testosterone with an additional 1,2-double bond — the same Δ¹ modification that defines trenbolone’s family, but on the testosterone scaffold and kept 17β-unmodified at the pharmacophore level. Undecylenate esterification is what turns that molecule into a two-week intramuscular depot.

The kinetics are the story. In the ester master reference, boldenone undecylenate sits at ≈14 days half-life with an active fraction near 63% at typical intervals — right between nandrolone decanoate and testosterone enanthate behavior. The half-life plotter draws the decay curve for any starting amount.

Research context

Two literatures carry boldenone:

1. Residue and doping analysis. Because it was a licensed equine drug, boldenone is a fixture in LC-MS/MS and immunoassay validation studies for meat, hair and urine matrices — the detection windows and metabolite (boldenone glucuronide) mapping are unusually well documented for a non-human steroid.
2. Comparative androgen pharmacology. The Δ¹ structure makes it a useful comparator when studies ask what the 1,2-dehydro substitution alone does versus 17β-ester changes.
